What We OfferWound Care 101 As an RN, BSN, CWS, FCCWS, Janette Dietzler had
for many years received requests from a broad range of staff on ways to
recognize and treat complex wound care problems. Over those years, she had
begun to develop a written method of teaching her own staff on ways to address
wound care problems. As she continued to work with patients and pursue advanced
wound care training her self, Janette realized there was a real need for wound
care training for nurses that is taught from the nurse to nurse standpoint.
After much research and a shared purpose of providing the best methods of
treatment to improve patient quality of life, Janette began to work with Marge
Groom, RN, BSN, WOCN and Roxy Lupien RN, to design and develop a basic class to
address basic wound care needs. This class was to be used as a method of
training staff from multiple areas in healthcare on state of the art
information on skin and wound care and methods of dealing with complex wounds
across the continuum. This was the birth of the Wound Care 101 class. Attendees in this class will graduate with the
ability to: ·
Identify how
wounds are classified according to etiology & depth, including updates in
NPUAP Pressure Ulcer Staging System ·
Describe the
phases of wound healing ·
List
CMS-mandated wound characteristics to document as part of a comprehensive wound
assessment ·

possible therapeutic approaches using advanced therapies This class was very well received by attendees in
the healthcare provider field as the class is geared towards specialization
knowledge, but at the level of the person providing the patient care. This class provides an overview of wound healing,
pressure ulcer prevention & management, differentiating lower extremity
ulcers and advanced wound care therapies and is approved for 8.0 contact hours
by the Missouri Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the Wound Care 201 After numerous requests for an advanced class,
Janette once again worked with Marge Groom, RN, BSN, WOCN
and also with Beverly Mittrucker, RN, BSN to develop a new and more advanced
wound care class. Thus our Wound Care 201 class was born. This class focuses on
wound assessment and healing, diabetic wounds & treatment options,
therapeutic approaches using advanced wound therapies, pain screening tools
& guidelines for pain management, and wound infection and interventions. Attendees in this class will graduate with the
